Downloading your transactions
Your bank will give you the whole year as one spreadsheet file in about two minutes. Here is where each of them hides the button.
Chase
Ask for CSV (or QBO if you are asked for Quickbooks)
- 1
Sign in at chase.com on a computer. The phone app will not download a file.
- 2
Click the account you want on the left, so its transactions are on screen.
- 3
Look for the download arrow — a small downward arrow in a square, at the top right of the transaction list.
It sits near the search box. On a narrow window it can hide behind a three-dot menu.
- 4
Choose the date range. Pick the whole tax year: 1 January to 31 December.
If it offers you only “Statement period”, switch it to “Custom date range” first.
- 5
For file type choose Spreadsheet (CSV), not PDF.
This is the step that matters. A PDF is a picture of your statement; a CSV is the numbers themselves.
- 6
Click Download. Repeat for every account and every credit card.
Watch out. Chase only keeps about seven years of activity, and the download window may not let you pick a whole year in one go. If it stops you, do it half a year at a time and send both files.
